About The Founder
Ochanya Agbo’s journey into baking began in 2012, when she first discovered the craft as an undergraduate student. At the time, baking was a practical way to earn extra income while in school, and her primary ambition was to become a lawyer. What started as a side activity soon revealed a creative spark she couldn’t ignore.
After being called to the bar, Ochanya went on to practice law, continuing to bake alongside her legal career. Over time, as she refined her skills and received increasing demand for her work, her passion for baking and business steadily grew. What began as a means to support herself as a student evolved into a deeper commitment to craftsmanship, flavor, and creativity.
Although she started without formal culinary training, Ochanya invested intentionally in her professional growth. She trained with world-class bakers, including by.aletoso, and attended several baking schools to refine her techniques and broaden her creative perspective. Her dedication has earned her multiple awards for her contributions to the cake industry from the International Cake Exploration Society (ICES).
Today, Ochanya is the creative force behind Cakes & Bakes by Och, where she is known for bespoke celebration cakes and luxury desserts driven by a flavor-first philosophy. Her work is defined by thoughtful design, quality ingredients, and a collaborative approach that ensures each cake reflects the significance of the moment it is created for.
Beyond her work, Ochanya enjoys reading, traveling, and watching movies, and she places great value on family. These personal influences shape her approach to both life and business, grounding her work in warmth, balance, and intention.
